How big is a buffalo hide?

Sizes naturally do vary and are NOT the only price factor. We state the size on every hide we sell. It's important to note, that bison hides aren't stretched in the same way as a cowhide.

Again, sizes range but here is a sampling of buffalo hide sizes: 85” x 86”, 97” X 77”, 85” x 74”, 92” x 80”, and 101” X 83”.

Are buffalo hides warm?

Yes, buffalo hides are generously warm. Our buffalo hides all have deep, lush winter fur.

The bull bison are longer heavier furred and have thicker leather which in turn makes them heavier and warmer. Bulls are used for rugs, robes, and moccasins. Cow bison are lighter in weight and can be used for rugs, bedding, robes, coats, vests, hats, mitts, and other clothing apparel.

Is buffalo hide better than cowhide?

Buffalo hides are unparalleled in their softness, strength, and durability. Buffalo hides are also larger, heavier, cost more, and are in shorter supply.

When asked what animal hide is best, we encourage buyers to consider how they intend to use the hide in addition to which animal, color, texture, and size they prefer.

We understand price is a consideration. What is your budget? Ask yourself, are you looking for a short or long hair rug? Textures vary from cow hair to a buffalo’s winter fur coat.

Understanding the differences will ensure you choose the perfect rug or robe. Compare Between Buffalo, Cow, Bear & Others
