First Day Hike

Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center
Custer State Park hosts an annual New Years Day Hike or first day of the year hike. Traditionally, the hike begins at the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center at 10 am on January 1. In 2018, the guided hike led along the paved Creekside Trail for approximately two miles, lasting 2 hours. The event was a part of a national initiative to offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year connecting with the outdoors by taking a hike on January 1 at Custer State Park.
Visitors can find the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center one mile west of the Visitor Center and one mile east of the Park Office.
